Welcome to Math Relay!
Where kids come to learn, work as a team, and have fun!

The purpose of this event is to bring together 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students from different elementary, intermediate, and middle schools for a fun, yet challenging, competitive experience. Both physical and academic skills will be addressed as the individual runners of each relay team answer ten basic math facts questions and negotiate an obstacle course 50 yards long.

Each team will be comprised of twenty students (10 boys and 10 girls). It does not make any difference what grade level the team members are in, as long as they are all in the 4th, 5th, or 6th grade, or any combination of these grades. Some schools may choose to send only teams comprised of one particular grade level, while others may send teams of multi-grade students. We hope the following information will be helpful in deciding whether you would like to participate in this event this year.

Hope to see you there!!!

Hi All:

It is with great sadness that I bring you this news......The Math Relay will not take place this year! I will send back the few registration forms and $$ that have been collected this year.

Steve & I have had over half of the schools email us with regrets of not being able to attend this year's event. The reasons vary from financial strain in their districts, the later date, kids gone to camp, schools are out, field days, etc.

The problem really occurred when the state went to a month long testing schedule. Our district then moved the week long student-led conferences which include ½ days and no school on the 1st Friday in June, which has been the traditional day for over 25 years. We then tried to move the event to the next week, but we ran into stadium issues with graduation, other schools were at 5th & 6th grade camps, and many of the private schools were out for the Summer. If we move it to the end of April, we lose the weather and the facilities are being used by classes, track teams, other events, etc.

Like all schedules, there was a magical balance that occurred with the 1st Friday in June, and that's why we used that day for so many years. However, with the disruption of dates, it appears the Math Relay will no longer be realistic. We only had about 16 teams, that could attend.......and that just did not seem like the event we all know and love. Steve & I would like to thank all of you for working with kids over the years, and having fun with Math & PE! If anything changes in the future, then we will discuss resurrection at that time.

So....the Math Relay guys are signing off!

Kyle & Steve
